Fourth of July: What are you doing?

What are you doing on the Fourth of July? Beach, Picnic, River? Well my family is coming up and we are going to be eating the standard Catholic Church Chicken Stew (a local Catholic Church always makes chicken stew and barbeque) and a smoked Boston But from the local High School Football team fundraiser. So we are pretty much going to sit back and eat. My daughter is planning on making a rather difficult patriotic dessert. I will post a picture if it turns out. To make my blog more patriotic, I'm posting some patriotic cards! Happy Fourth of July!

A good friend of mine has introducted me to a new hobby. OH NO! Says my husband. Everytime you get a new friend, they come with a new hobby. Knitting is fun so far. I haven't done anything hard still just practicing. Can't wait to really do something neat!

Lost Kitty

Had a really fun day today. We lost our kitty Lulu. She does not go outside, so we knew she was in the house. My other cat, Mittens, knew something was wrong and talked to me all day, but I couldn't understand what he wanted. He was saying that Lulu was locked in the linen closet! We didn't find her until this evening when my son opened the door to the linen closet and out fell a very sleepy Lulu. She has kept all of us in her sight the rest of the evening and Mittens was so tired of trying to tell us where she was that he has gone to bed. What a day! Ok so my neighbors house got in here and I'm not that computer savy and can't get rid of it. Oh well, better luck tomorrow.

Snow, Again in the Heart of Dixie!

Can't believe we have been snowed in again in the "Heart of Dixie" We have missed 3 days of school and are getting a little cabin fever. The whole neighborhood had a great time playing in the snow and making snowmen and women and sledding. For some of us who have lived here our whole lives this is the only the second time we have had a snow like this in our lifetime.

The first pic is of most of our street, the second is of dear daughter sledding! Thanks to Nana for taking the pictures!

I finally made a card, actually an invitation. I belong to a "supper club" and it was my turn to host. There are 6 couples. My theme was "southern home cooking" . The picture is of my invitation. I know it says 'Bon Appetit", but anyway, you know I love French. We had country steak and gravy, homemade chicken and dumplings, candied apples, cabbage casserole, mashed potatoes, and Jack Daniels Chocolate Pecan Pie. I must say it went well and everyone loved the food.

Well another year comes around. I'm going to try to do better to post more often. I have my workroom stocked and ready to make things! New stamps and papers! I can't wait. One of my resolutions is to make at least one thing a week, anything.

We also had a White Christmas here in North Alabama, my first since I was 3 years old! It was beautiful! My kids have never had a White Christmas. I would love to use some of my pictures to make Christmas cards for next year, any suggestions how to do this?

Back from Europe!

Finally I'm back from my trip. It was really great and I will be posting some pictures later. I am working now on my craftroom. It's not really big. But at least it's a room just for me. I painted it a smoky blue and the furniture is black. Now I am trying to arrange things in it to look nice. I have so much I don't know if this can be done. Here are some pictures of how I wish it could look, at least the neatness of the rooms. When I'm done I'll post my pictures.

Sorry again about so long in posting. My son and I are off to France and Italy. We are going to Paris, Nice and Eze France and Pisa, Florence and Rome, Italy. Of course we will hit all of the tourist spots and hopefully some non tourist spots, I'll have lots of pics and some inspiration for cards. I hope to get to go to a flea market to get some French/Italian ephemera. Bon Voyage!

New Stamp Set!

Another post 3 months later, I'm really not doing so good. Anyway school is about out, Hooray! and my craftroom is ready for me to move into it, I'm going to take some pics tonight and post. My only problem is I don't know how to organize my materials. I want everything to be positioned just right so I can have access to everything. I'm trying to plan a floor plan. If any of you have an idea let me know. It's 12x12 and painted a French Blue. I want the furniture, which I already have most to be black, I even have a huge rub-on of the Eiffel Tower that I want to put in there.
Anyway I have a new stampset. It's not brand new to the company, but new to me. I have several friends who love tea, I mean they have it every morning and evening so I planned to make them cards with this set. Of course it's a teapot with a lot of cute sayings. I have posted some samples from the Papertrey site, the link is in the title, that are really cute! I hope you like them, and when I make mine, I'll post them too. Thanks to the followers, you are my first and have inspired me to keep this blog up to date, I hope I do not disappoint you!

I recently had time to look through my stamps and found some I wanted to make cards with. I have been collecting images for a while so I do not know who to attribute these cards to, I plan to do better. But I have all of the stamps the cards are made with and I really want to make some with them. These have really given me some great ideas and I love the images. Hopefully I'll post some that I made soon!

A friend of mine has recently opened her own scrapping/stamping company out of her home. All of our specialty scrap and stamp stores have closed in our town, this is really nice. She has a crop every month, for $5.00 you can enter the challenge of the month. YOu get a bag full of at least $7.50 worth of products, we have a month to make anything we want out of it, bring it back to next month's crop and pick a winner. It's neat to see what everyone has done with the same materials. This is the first month I entered. I did a layout of my daughter,Mom and I when we went on a trip to the Biltmore.

Today she had her "Falliday Open House" I actually made a card and tag! I'm getting there, back into the mode. She had some really great products. Hopefully I can make a card tomorrow with my new Magnolia stamps, I'm excited, my very first Magnolia's!!!

Spirited Art Class

Well, last night was a first for me. I've been wanting to take some art classes to be able to actually color and make my cards better. Anyway, I've never painted before in my life. This girl named Becca has about 3 classes a month, they are called "Spirited Art" it is called this because you get to have a glass of wine while you are painting. Everyone paints the same picture in acrylic paint, but of course everyone's looks different. It was fun, can you guess what it is suppose to be? I may even take another class. She doing a Van Gogh like still life. Ha Ha I wonder what mine will look like.

A week ago my wonderful upline, Joann Weimers hosted a SU Demo Stamp Session to show us the new colors and products and show us ways to use them. We made some really neat things. A couple of Chrismas Cards with the new colors, a card the included a book mark, a gift bag, a pizza box, and a card set holder. These are only a few of the things we did. We also had a great demostration of the Sizzix Big Shot. I included an exclusive embossing template of our 20th anniversay seal. I really did not know all of the things that the Big Shot could do. It can take any templets, dies from any machine: cuddlebug, quikcutz revolution, and several others that I can't think of their names. It is really neat. I am going to have to have one! Check out the www.stampinup.com website to see more. I'd be happy to sell you one for a onetime deal of 20% off. Just let me know. I'll try to show more things it can do. Debut of "Acheron"

Well we attended the debut book signing of the book of Acheron, for the year of "Acheron". It was at the Parthenon,in Nashville, TN, a replica, of the one in Greece. Inside is a huge statue of Artemis, a main character in the DarkHunter series. There were about 500 fans there. Some with horns, wings and vampire teeth, it was very interesting. We waited in line about an hour, and we got a lanyard and three buttons, one that said "bite me", it was cute. We finally got inside to see Sherrilyn. She was dressed in a black lace dress with her vampire teeth in, you would not have known her as the all american mom.

After we saw Sherrilyn we met the characters, Ash (who did not look like I thought he should), Zerek (he did look like I thought he would, Rafeal, he looked right , Nick Gautier (looked ok) and Sundance (I somehow missed his story, so I didn't know what he should have looked like. They were very nice and signed our books and let us take pictures. I have included the pics. It was fun!

Well school has started for the teachers and the students come in this Wednesday. I am not ready. My room is, but I'm not. I wanted to make so much this summer, but have really done nothing. So I have entered myself into 5 swaps, so that I would have to make something. They are not due until mid August so I will have time to do them.

One exciting thing, after school tomorrow, my friend and I will be going to Nashville, TN to see one of our favorite writers, Sherrilyn Kenyon. She has a book signing of her new book, Asheron(sp wrong). If any of you read her, you know he is the Main Guy in the Dark Hunter series. He will be there in person, along with his friends, we are not sure which, but Simi, his demon tattoo who comes to life will be there. She is really cool. We are hoping to get pics and I will post them. This should be exciting! She also writes as Kinley MacGregor if any of you read historical romances. She's cool, she has three little boys and lives just outside of Nashville. She looks just like a regular Mom, but has a wonderful imagination and plenty of energy. If you are interested in vampires and were creatures, not scary but romantic and funny, she is the one to read. Her books are in the romance section under paranormal. If you have never read paranormal, check her out. They are very entertaining, and not scary.

The living is easy. We did nothing but sit/lay on the beach, eat, sleep, play and read. It was a very quiet and restful vacation. Oh yes, I forgot to say shop. (my daughter and I) Found a great scrapbook outlet, like I needed more supplies. My little diva daughter enjoyed the beach along with my son and his friend. My hubby and I loved it too. We almost had the beach to ourselves, just a few other families. It was great!

Back from a week in Sunny Florida

Just got back tonight from a week in Sunny Florida for vacation and I am pooped. I did go to a really neat scrapbook store. They had some paper that I had never heard of. I really like Halloween paper and they had a line called "The Adams Family" I must have missed this line, it is too cute. I will be posting pics tomorrow and returning your comments. Thanks for visiting my blog while I was gone. I'm glad to be back and ready to make something!

Here our some more pictures. We of course went all the way to the top of the Eiffel Tower. It's beautiful at night. For 20 minutes everynight the Eiffel Tower "twinkles" with lights. It's so pretty. They even sell (for 10 euros) a flute of champage.

France and Italy Trip

Here are some pictures of my trip to Italy (Rome, Assisi, Pisa, and Florence) and France (Eze, Cannes, Paris) and Monaco (Monte Carlo). Of course I couldn't show all of the pics, (I have over 300) As you can tell, I took lots of candy and pastry shops. The groups shots are my students and their relatives that went , plus a few students without relatives. They were a great group!

The first picture is a picture of the Pope at the Vatican. You can barely see him in the distance in the Popemobile with his red hat on.

We also had an Italian cooking class. The kids loved it! This was in Florence, Italy.

Lawn of the month

My husband loves working in the yard, and has always hoped to get"yard of the month" in our neighborhood. Well his dream came true. Last night the committee called and said that we had the "yard of the month" for the month of July. We were very excited. He works very hard to keep our yard looking great!

a. wash clothes

c. bake bread like Macaroni's Grill ( it did not rise)
d. Fix food for the bottomless pits of my son and his friend
e. hang out with my 8 year old daughter trying on our new stuff from Bath and Body.

3. Snacks I enjoy:

Chocolate from La Maison du Chocolat, and Nutella on croissants

4. Things I would do if I was a millionaire:

quit my job, built my parents and grandmother a house, set up college funds and finish my house including a snazzy craft room.

5. Places I've lived. Not many

Bella Cards Gift

Before I left for Europe, I had a friend of my mother's ask me to make her a gift. A tin with Bella cards. So I made two of each Bella and two of each of the monogram cards. I made quick pictures before I gave it to her. Sorry the pics are blurry. I still have not mastered how to make really clear pictures. I'm working on it!

I entered an altered Frapp Bottle on Ladybug's creations website. It was hard to see the paper with the picture on the bottle, so I made a card to go with it. I used CTMH Boom-di-ada paper. I thought it turned out ok. Let me know what you think. My pictures are still blurry, the macro button worked on the flowers ,but not on my card, I still don't know what I'm doing wrong. Anyway let me know what you think!
